Opportunities abound in Russia for those wanting to go "on mission." Church planting, evangelism, short-term trips, leadership training, and community initiatives await those looking to connect with life-changing outreaches.
Despite the fact that Russia is the largest country on earth, nearly twice the size of the United States and with a population of 141 million, it always seems to want to be bigger. The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) was formed in 1924. The Baltic states were incorporated in 1940. And before Moscow was finished, it had swallowed up 15 republics. In 1991, the iron fist of the USSR was melted down into the Commonwealth of States (CIS). When the United States backed Georgia and called the Russian action “an illegitimate, unilateral attempt to change the country’s borders by force,” opposition from the country’s leadership was inevitable. At the same time, God is standing at the door and knocking.
